Visibility of indexing label on

Maximum filing inches - there is
no post to take up filing inches. Two inches are lost for each shelf in a
Four-Post system.
There is no post behind which a
folder can get trapped.
Shelf dividers are not wasted to
prevent folders from being trapped behind a post.
There is no post to interfere with
the misfile protection of color-coding folders.
Cantilever shelves can be adjusted
without the use of tools.
It is possible to adjust
cantilever shelves without having to remove folders - impossible with
Four-Post.
Shelves on one side of
double-faced cantilever shelving can be adjusted independently of the shelves
on the opposite side. Four-post double-faced shelving uses shelves that extend
from one section face side to the other section face side. Adjusting one side
requires that the other side be identical in spacing. If you are using
different media (i.e., folders and books), this can mean the spacing between
shelves are not optimal for one of the sides.
Because 4 post double-faced
shelving uses shelves that extend from one side to the other instead of two
(one for each side), a shelf backstop has to be fastened to the top of each
shelf. This is done with nuts and bolts. These nuts and the lip of the shelf
backstop that attaches to the top of each shelf causes the bottom corner of
folders to snag. The corner of folders quickly become torn and ragged.
Because folders stick out on the
adjustable shelves of cantilever shelving, it is easier to remove folders,
which are tightly filed because folders can be "bumped" upwards along the
bottom edge.
Single-faced cantilever sections
can be easily converted to double-face sections and vice-versa. Four-Post
shelving is purchased as either single-faced or double-faced and cannot be
converted from one to the other.
